Professional makeup at Hanna Madison Salon is applied for events, portraits, and weddings, where the result has to hold for hours and read well on camera. Camera flash and daylight are unforgiving in opposite directions, so we apply differently depending on where you are going. Available in Columbus, GA, usually alongside a styling appointment.
What the appointment covers
We start by asking where you are going and what the lighting will be. An outdoor afternoon wedding and an indoor evening reception with a photographer need different finishes, and the difference is mostly in the base.
- A conversation about the event, the lighting, and how much makeup you normally wear.
- Skin prep, which is the part that decides whether the base lasts.
- Base matched in the light you will actually be in where possible.
- Eyes and lips built to the level you are comfortable with, not the level a photo suggests.
- Setting, so it holds through the day.
Who it suits
Brides and bridal parties, graduation and prom, family portraits, engagement shoots, and anyone with an evening where they do not want to be doing their own eyeliner. It also suits people who wear very little makeup day to day and want to look like themselves at a bigger version, rather than unrecognizable.
Weddings and bridal parties
For a wedding, book early and ask about a trial. A trial is the difference between finding out on the morning that a base is too heavy and finding out weeks beforehand when there is time to change it. If you are booking for a group, tell the front desk the headcount and the ceremony time, because the schedule is built backward from that.
How to prepare
- Come with a clean, moisturized face and no makeup on.
- Bring a photo of a finish you like, and one you do not.
- If you have a foundation shade you already know works, bring it.
- Do any brow waxing a few days before, not the same morning, so redness has time to settle. See facial waxing.
- Tell us about sensitive skin or product allergies before we start.

Common questions
Should I book a trial before my wedding?
If you can, yes. A trial lets you see the finish in daylight and in photos, and gives time to adjust before the day itself. It also lets us plan the timing for the morning so nobody is rushed.
How long does it last?
Properly prepped and set, event makeup holds through a long day. Skin prep matters more than the products on top. Tell us if you tend to get oily or if it will be hot outside, since both change how we set it.
Will it look heavy in person?
It should not. Photography makes makeup look lighter than it is, which is why some event makeup looks heavy in the mirror. We balance for both, and we will show you in natural light before you leave.
Can you do my bridal party too?
Yes. Tell the front desk your headcount and ceremony time when you book. The morning schedule is built backward from when you need to be finished, so we need those two numbers early.
Can I book makeup and hair together?
That is how most event bookings work. Mention both when you book so the appointments are sequenced properly, with hair usually first.
