Hair Extensions

Hair extensions at Hanna Madison Salon start with a consultation, and that consultation is free. Extensions are quoted rather than priced from a list, because the hair itself is the largest part of the cost and it depends on your length, density, and color match. Anyone quoting you a flat number before seeing your hair is guessing.

Why extensions are quoted, not listed

Two people asking for the same look can need very different amounts of hair. Someone with fine, shoulder length hair wanting mid back length needs more hair than someone with dense hair adding thickness at the same length. Color matching adds another variable, because blended tones need more than one shade of hair to look real.

So the consultation covers three things: how much hair your goal actually requires, which method suits your hair and your life, and what the upkeep will cost you over a year rather than just on install day.

The main approaches, and who each suits

Extensions are not one product. These are the families you will hear about, and the honest trade offs:

  • Hand tied wefts lie flat and suit fine hair well, because there is no bulky attachment point. They need moving up on a regular cycle.
  • Machine or beaded wefts carry more hair per row, which suits denser hair wanting length and volume together.
  • Tape ins are quicker to install and gentler on the wallet up front, with a shorter cycle between services.
  • Individual methods such as K tips give the most movement and the most flexibility in placement, and take the longest to install.
  • Clip ins are the no commitment option for events, with no maintenance cycle at all.

Your stylist will tell you at the consultation which of these fits your hair, your budget, and how much salon time you can realistically give it. That last one rules out more methods than people expect.

The honest part about maintenance

Extensions are a standing commitment, not a one time purchase. Every method needs moving up as your own hair grows, on a cycle measured in weeks rather than months. The hair itself lasts through a number of move ups if it is cared for, and then needs replacing.

Before you commit, ask yourself whether you will realistically come in on that cycle. Extensions left too long past their move up are where damage happens, because the attachment points start pulling on hair that has grown away from them.

  • Brush with a loop brush, from the ends upward, twice a day.
  • Sulfate free shampoo, and keep conditioner off the attachment points.
  • Sleep with hair braided or tied loosely. Friction overnight is what causes matting.
  • Heat protectant every time, since extension hair does not repair itself the way growing hair does.

Will they damage my hair

Installed at the right weight for your hair, and moved up on schedule, extensions do not damage hair. Damage comes from three things: too much weight for the hair supporting it, attachments left in far too long, and rough removal. All three are avoidable, and all three are why we start with a consultation instead of an install.

If your hair is currently fragile from repeated lightening, we will say so. Sometimes the right answer is a few months of condition work first, then extensions.

Booking the consultation

The consultation is free and there is no obligation attached to it. Come with your hair down and unstyled, bring photos of the length and thickness you want, and be ready to talk honestly about budget, because it changes which methods are worth discussing.

Read the full team page to see who you would be working with, or call 706-604-1862 and the front desk will book you in.

Pricing

The consultation is listed on the Service Menu along with the rest of our services. Your install quote comes out of that consultation, because it depends on how much hair your goal takes.

Common questions

How much do extensions cost?

It depends mostly on how much hair your goal requires, which is why we quote after a consultation rather than publishing a flat number. The consultation is free, and you will leave it with a real figure for both the install and the ongoing move ups.

How long do they last?

The attachment needs moving up on a cycle of weeks as your own hair grows. The hair itself lasts through several of those cycles when it is cared for properly, then needs replacing. Your stylist gives you both numbers at the consultation.

Will anyone be able to tell?

Not if the color match and the placement are right, which is most of the skill. Blended tones usually need more than one shade of hair to read naturally. This is the main thing that separates good extension work from obvious extension work.

Can I have extensions if my hair is fine or thin?

Often yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people come in. Fine hair changes which method is appropriate and how much weight it can carry safely. That assessment is exactly what the consultation is for.

Can I color my extensions?

Extension hair does not respond to color the way growing hair does and it cannot repair itself afterward. Talk to your stylist before any color goes near them. Usually the better approach is matching at install and refreshing the tone with a gloss.

Can I still work out and swim?

Yes, with a few habits. Tie hair up for workouts, rinse after chlorine or salt water, and dry the attachment area rather than leaving it damp. Tell your stylist how often you swim, because it affects which method they recommend.
